Marianne Faithfull has admitted she's become 'very, very depressed' during the coronavirus pandemic after recvoering from the disease last moth.

The London-born singer and actress, 73, was discharged from hospital in April after a 22-day battle with Covid-19, which has infected more than 270,000 people in the UK.

Speaking to Radio 4's Today show, the 1960s icon said: 'I've been very ill, but I'm fine now.

'I haven't dealt with it [lockdown] well.

'I got very, very depressed. To deal with it I meditated. People sending me light and love helped me a lot. I'm very grateful to that, that feeling that other people cared.

But the actress, who famously dated Mick Jagger in the sixties, said she wasn't going to let sickness stop her from performing.

'I'm hoping I'll be able to perform by next winter. I'd rather not retire, if you write you don't have to retire, and I think I get better, stronger. Something happens and you think you'll never sing again, but it's not true.'

Last month, Faithfull thanked well-wishers for their 'kind messages of concern' and said she 'is very grateful to all the NHS staff' who cared for her and 'without doubt, saved her life.'

'We are really happy to say that Marianne has been discharged from hospital today, 22 days after being admitted suffering from the symptoms of Covid-19. She will continue to recuperate in London,' a statement on her Twitter account read.

Her ex-husband John Dunbar (left with Faithfull in 2007) claimed Faithfull was struggling to speak throughout her battle with Covid-19

In a statement on Twitter, Faithfull thanked well-wishers for their 'kind messages of concern' and said she 'is very grateful to all the NHS staff' who cared for her and 'without doubt, saved her life'

'Marianne thanks you all for your kind messages of concern which have meant a great deal through what is a such a difficult time for so many.

'She is also very grateful to all the NHS staff who cared for her at the hospital and, without doubt, saved her life.'

The singer's manager Francois Ravard confirmed Faithfull was being treated for coronavirus on April 4, adding she was 'stable and responding to treatment.'

Her ex-husband John Dunbar added Faithfull was struggling to speak throughout her three-week Covid-19 ordeal.

The British artist reportedly said: 'She can barely speak and no visitors,' but added that it has been 'so far so good', regarding her treatment.

Mick Jagger's former lover was discovered at a Rolling Stones launch party she attended with Dunbar in 1964, which helped launch her singing career.

The singer  released a slew of successful hits and ended up marrying Dunbar in 1965, though she ultimately left him for Jagger (pictured together)

Later that year, she released her first song, As Tears Go By, written by Jagger, Keith Richards and Andrew Loong Oldham.

She released a slew of successful hits and ended up marrying Dunbar in 1965, though she ultimately left him for Jagger.

But after leaving Jagger in the 1970s, she became addicted to heroin and was homeless.

She was then found on the street by producer Mike Leander in 1971 as she tried to get her career on track, releasing the country-influenced album Dreamin' My Dreams in 1975, but her career wasn't fully revived until her 1979 album Broken English.

It was revealed earlier this year that Lucy Boynton, 26, will star as Faithfull in a new planned biopic detailing her life.

The film will chart her sudden and meteoric rise, tour trung quốc to her downfall with substance abuse and homelessness before her road to recovery.

'Marianne is an extraordinary woman who rebelled against the male dominated music industry,' director Ian Bonhote said.

'The film will explore female-issues as well as the injustices she suffered in her quest to be recognised as an artist,' he added.

'I'm honoured to collaborate with Lucy and Julia to shine a light on Marianne's timeless story,' he said, referring to Boynton and producer Julia Taylor-Stanley.

Boynton herself will serve as an executive producer, though it remains unclear when the film will go into production, or when it will be released.

'I am delighted that my story is finally being made with my dream team of Lucy, Julia and Ian,' Faithfull herself said in a statement.

Boynton starred as Mary Austin in her boyfriend Rami Malek's rock biopic Bohemian Rhapsody last year, and she played Astrid Sloan in The Politician.
