John Legend has made it clear where he stands in his friendship with Kanye West - after the husband of Kim Kardashian began showing his support for President Trump. 

The 41-year-old singer said they had 'gone their separate ways,' while speaking to The Times on Saturday. 

The All Of Me Singer has previously appeared on eight of the 42-year-old's tracks over the years, after signing with his record label, GOOD Music, back in 2004.

'I don't think we're less friends because of the Trump thing. I just think we're doing our own thing,' he said.

'It was never a part of our interaction. Our interaction was almost always about creativity and music.' 

The husband of Chrissy Teigen added that musically they're no longer in the same place either, after Kanye has recently moved to a more gospel path. 

'He's also in a different place musically. He's doing gospel music. That's what he's focused on right now, designing his clothes, so we're in different places.'

The pair's relationship was thrown into the spotlight in 2018 when the father to Kim Kardashian's children shared the private messages John had sent him in regards to the President.

'As you know, what you say really means something to your fans. They are loyal to you and respect your opinion. You're the greatest artist of our generation.' 

Kanye responded: 'I love you John and I appreciate your thoughts. You bringing up my legacy is a tactic based on fear used to manipulate my free thought.' 

And despite John and Kanye's separated relationship, their wives, Chrissy Teigen and Kim Kardashian, have remained friends.
