Don't match your napkins to your walls. In fashion and in our homes, the recent mood has been against matchy-matchy style. Seeing double: An elegant arrangement by OKA  'The idea of matching sets in the home has been a bit of a taboo,' says Julie Paul, head of interior design at OKA, 'non-matching dining chairs and clashing fabric textures have been everywhere.  But this eclectic look can start to appear messy, Lục bình gỗ tỳ bà especially in more confined spaces.

Dynamic ceramics: Vases by ceramicist Chris Keenan who specialises in multiples Today, ceramicists make pieces that beg to be grouped and gathered together.

Chris Keenan throws beautiful cups, pots and vases in porcelain (from £30, chris keenan.co.uk). 'I never make one thing,' he says. 'Making multiples is an important part of my work.' The more you play with collections, whether on a mantelpiece or along a dresser's edge, the more you will see your possessions anew. 'Why not move two things each day as you go up and down stairs?' He installed a row of his pieces on a windowsill at Blackwell, an Arts & Crafts house, near Lake Windermere.  His aim was to allow glimpses of the fells and sky through the gaps.

His work can be seen over his studio's open weekend in London (December 1 to 4).
