With pressure mounting on the Government to scrap the six-month MOT test exemption, recently updated figures from the Department for Transport have revealed which models are most and least likely to pass and fail.

MOT testers have this week claimed that some 1.1million vehicles eligible for the extension would have failed the assessment but are instead being used on the road for half a year without being checked.

Already trade bodies have called for the test extension to be axed, with MOT rules put in place for the coronavirus pandemic now under government review and likely to be lifted forcing motorists to have their cars checked on schedule.

Newly updated records show some that models have less chance of passing than others, according to the official records.

Full MOT records for 2019 were published by the DfT in May, providing a glimpse at which motors are standing the test of time better than others.

According to the records its the trusty Honda Jazz that has the best success rate in MOTs, with a pass rate as high as 95.4 per cent last year.

The versatile Jazz is joined in the best MOT passers by three other Japanese models, with the Honda CR-V having the second highest success rate of 94.3 per cent, closely followed by the hybrid Toyota Prius with 93.1 per cent sailing through their examinations in 2019.

The Toyota RAV4, with a 92.7 per cent pass rate, was the model with the fifth best success rate, bettered marginally by the Mercedes-Benz GLA SUV with 92.8 per cent triumphing in 2019 tests and mixing it among the Japanese brands with the highest success rates.
