Cricket Australia will strongly consider the player push for the Gabba to host next summer's series opener against India when it decides on its schedule.

The 2020/21 schedule shapes as possibly the most decisive in years, with four Tests to be played against India after a one-off clash with Afghanistan.

All five of the major capital cities are desperate to host the world No.1 India, with a battle likely to loom between Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide to avoid missing out.

The Gabba attracted just 45,891 across the four days of Australia's Test against Pakistan last month, but the Aussies are undefeated at the venue for 30 years.

Meanwhile Perth's Optus Stadium is the newest venue in the country and holds 60,000 people, however Western Australia missed out on a Test in the four-Test summer of 2014/15.

Adelaide is the most comfortable of the trio, considered by many to be the best ground in the country.

"There will be different criteria. There is an art and a science to it," CA chief executive Kevin Roberts said.

"As you would understand we look at historical attendances.

"We look at the playing side of things.

It's a really important thing. Especially for the first Test where the players have a very strong preference for the first Test of any major series to be played at the Gabba.

"As you would appreciate, as we travel around the country for different Test matches, there are very valid articles put up in each city."

Roberts denied that India had in any way stopped the Gabba from hosting them last summer, cricnfootballfight.hpage.com when Brisbane was relegated to hosting Sri Lanka.

He was also confident Indian authorities would agree to at least one day-night Test, having played their first pink-ball match against Pakistan last month.

Roberts believed India's relatively safe position in the top two of the World Test Championship could help make the decision easier.

Adelaide has hosted day-night Tests for all but one of the past five summers, with India not agreeing to one in 2018/19.

"I absolutely believe we should be playing one pink-ball Test in the Indian series next year," Roberts said.

"With Sourav Ganguly coming into the presidency of the BCCI, he's been very proactive in scheduling the first day-night Test in India.

"We saw that was a sell out in three days which is very different to what the previous day series have looked at in terms of ticket sales.

"There is an openness from India and an understanding that it is good for cricket. And their standing in the World Test Championship hopefully helps things next season."
