SOCCER - Senegal's Papa Bouba Diop reels away in celebration after scoring the winner in a 1-0 victory over defending champions France in the first group match of the 2002 World Cup.
Diop's first-half goal gave Senegal a famous victory in their first ever World Cup campaign where they reached the quarter-finals.
France were eliminated in the group stage after they finished bottom of their group without a single win in three matches.

BASKETBALL - New Jersey Nets guard Jason Kidd holds up the NBA Eastern Conference Championship trophy after defeating the Boston Celtics in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals to win the series 4-2.
After winning the first game, the Nets found themselves 2-1 down in the series before rallying to win their first ever Conference title in the NBA.
However, the Nets were swept 4-0 in the NBA Finals by the Los Angeles Lakers who completed their three-peat after winning the title in the previous two seasons as well.

ICE HOCKEY - Detroit Red Wings captain Steve Yzerman holds the Clarence Campbell Bowl after defeating the Colorado Avalanche 7-0 in Game 7 of the NHL Western Conference final in Detroit.
The Red Wings went on to defeat Carolina Hurricanes in five games in the Stanley Cup finals to clinch their 10th title.
Three-time Stanley Cup winner Yzerman, who spent his entire 23-year career with the Red Wings, captained Detroit in 1303 games - the longest term in NHL history - and retired in 2006 as the league's seventh all-time leading scorer.

Michael Ballack scored a brace in the opening 10 minutes before Claudio Pizarro added the third goal, with Miroslav Klose scoring a consolation goal for Kaiserslautern in the 80th minute.
Bayern also won the Bundesliga that season with a 16-point lead over VfB Stuttgart but they failed to impress in the Champions League, getting knocked out early in the group stages.

After five rounds, the field was narrowed down to the final six greyhounds, who raced over a 480m stretch to determine the champion.
Loyal Honcho, a 5-2 joint-favourite alongside Tyrur Laurel, took control of the race early and pulled away down the stretch to finish three and a half lengths ahead of second-placed Tyrur Kieran and win 100,000 pounds ($123,420)in prize money.

The top seed was ousted in four sets and the defeat allowed second seed Roger Federer to win the only French Open title of his career so far when he beat Soderling in the final.
Nadal, who has won the Grand Slam a record 12 times, has only lost twice at Roland Garros, the other defeat coming in 2015 when he was knocked out by top seed Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.

YACHTING - Fireworks go off as Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing, skippered by Ian Walker, win the seventh leg of the Volvo Ocean Race from Miami to Lisbon.
After sailing more than 3,500 nautical miles, Walker's crew crossed the finish line six minutes ahead of Groupama Sailing Team, skippered by Franck Cammas.
The race had a total of nine ocean legs and 10 in-port races, beginning in Alicante, Spain, and ending in Galway, Ireland.

England great Jonny Wilkinson, in the last match of his storied career, scored four penalties and a drop goal to help Toulon exact revenge for tour thác bản giốc their defeat to Castres in the previous year's final.

Totti scored his 299th goal for Roma in that game as they finished the league in second place, 17 points behind champions Juventus.
The Italian forward scored 307 goals in 785 appearances for Roma, both club records, winning one Serie A title and two Coppa Italia trophies before retiring in May 2017.
